Are you looking for a new job? Building a product? Selling something?

Beware of the common trap of selfishness.

It is so easy to get caught up in what you want, how good you are, or why you deserve something. Why it matters to you. But don’t fail to remember a crucial lesson — no one cares about what you want (except for your mom…).

Instead of thinking about why you deserve to sell this product or get that job, think about the value you are able to deliver to someone else. People don’t care about how many years you’ve spent working toward this goal. What they care about is can you solve their problem.

When you stop being selfish and start providing value to others the conversation radically changes.
